Reports on Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Populations

In the 2020 Census, individuals who identified as Middle Eastern or North African (MENA) were categorized as White. In 2024, the U.S. Census Bureau announced updated race and ethnicity categories that all federal surveys, including the 2030 census, must use to report. One key change is that MENA will be reported separately from the White category.

Our team examined the MENA populations as reported in the 2020 census, to understand what states would have looked like had MENA populations been reported separately, as they will be in 2030.

Our team also created datasets at the city (census place) and county level containing counts of the detailed ethnic groups comprising the MENA populations.

Reports are available to download in 4 states, and datasets are available to download in all 50 states.
