Note that the dataset is 2024 Wisconsin November Election Data with January 2025 Wards. It uses the most recent, officially confirmed boundaries for municipal wards—collected in January 2025—even though those boundaries did not exist at the time of the election. The state has disaggregated the election results onto the newer ward geometry so that the totals match official reporting at county, municipality, and reporting-unit levels, with only minor ward-level discrepancies due to boundary changes.

Also note that a ward is the smallest election district in Wisconsin, usually a part of a city, village, or town, with its own polling place and geographic boundary. A reporting unit, on the other hand, is an administrative grouping of one or more wards used for reporting election results to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. For example, Reporting Unit 12 might include Wards 5, 6, and 7 combined. This means election results are typically published by reporting unit, while political boundaries are defined by ward. For analyses requiring ward-level results, data are usually disaggregated from the reporting unit to the ward level using WILTSB data.
