Alabama 2024 Primary Election Precinct Boundaries and Election Results ## RDH Date Retrieval 01/28/26 ## Sources Precinct-level election data from the Alabama Secretary of State (https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/election-data). Votes reported at the county-level (or Judicial Division in Jefferson County) are allocated to precincts based off of each precincts share of election-day votes for each candidate. For Jefferson County, documentation was found on the county website noting the Judicial Division corresponding to each precinct. All counties use the [Alabama 2024 Precinct Boundary and Election Results file](https://redistrictingdatahub.org/dataset/alabama-2024-general-election-precinct-level-results-and-boundaries/) as their source file. Due to minor typos, differences in spelling, and polling location changes, the precinct names do not match exactly across the two files, and all substantive differences have been verified with supporting documentation. ## Notes on Field Names: Columns reporting votes generally follow the pattern: One example is: G16PREDCLI The first character is G for a general election, P for a primary, S for a special, and R for a runoff. Characters 2 and 3 are the year of the election.* Characters 4-6 represent the office type (see list below). Character 7 represents the party of the candidate. Characters 8-10 are the first three letters of the candidate's last name. Election Type Codes Used: P - Primary R - Primary Runoff Office Codes Used: A## - Amendment CFJ - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court CR# - Court of Criminal Appeals Judge CV# - Court of Civil Appeals Judge PRE - President of the United States PSC - President, Public Service Commission CON## - US House of Representatives Party Codes Used: D - Democratic R - Republican ## Fields: ***al_2024_prim_all_prec*** Field Name Description UNIQUE_ID Unique ID for each precinct COUNTYFP County FIP identifier County County Name Precinct Precinct Name P24A01NO PROPOSED STATEWIDE AMENDMENT NUMBER ONE (1)-:-No P24A01YES PROPOSED STATEWIDE AMENDMENT NUMBER ONE (1)-:-Yes P24CFJRSTE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT-:-Sarah Stewart-:-REP P24CFJRTAY CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT-:-Bryan Taylor-:-REP P24CR2RAND COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS JUDGE, PLACE 2-:-Rich Anderson-:-REP P24CR2RGOV COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS JUDGE, PLACE 2-:-Thomas Govan-:-REP P24CV2RHAN COURT OF CIVIL APPEALS JUDGE, PLACE 2-:-Chad Hanson-:-REP P24CV2RPAR COURT OF CIVIL APPEALS JUDGE, PLACE 2-:-Stephen Davis Parker-:-REP P24PREDBID PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES-:-Joseph R Biden Jr-:-DEM P24PREDPHI PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES-:-Dean Phillips-:-DEM P24PREDUNC PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES-:-Uncommitted-:-DEM P24PRERBIN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES-:-Ryan L. These precincts could then be joined to the geometries in the "al_2024_gen_cong_prec" file from the 2024 General Election. In three instances in Lauderdale County (Christ Chapel Ch Cong 5, Killen Ch of Christ Cong 5, and Underwood Comm_ Car Cong 5), votes were reported in precinct/Congressional district intersections that do not correspond to valid geometries (i.e. the precincts and districts do not intersect). Outreach to the county did not lead us to believe that our precinct boundaries were incorrect, and as a result, these 14 total votes (4, 9, and 1 respectively) are not contained in either of the two files. These votes are for statewide contests and are not contained in the "cong" file as detailed below. The precinct boundary and election result files are split across two different files. The "_all_" file contains all the election results joined to precinct boundaries, but does not account for the congressional district-precinct splits identified in processing and as such, does not contain district assignments. The "_cong_" file contains congressional results at the most granular units for which data is available. Please note that in order to minimize superfluous splits, precinct splits are only made when a precinct contains votes for candidates in multiple districts, as such district assignments for precincts may not perfectly correspond to the districts themselves, particularly in large, uninhabited areas. In certain cases, votes for particular Congressional candidates are counted in precincts that are not contained within the districts. When constructing the "_cong_" file, these precinct geometries are first verified through communication with county officials, and if incorrect, removed from the file. This was the case for a total of 19 votes for Cong 6 candidates in precincts 1070 and 1100 in Jefferson County. These votes are not removed from the "_all_" file. After running the splits, we examine the split areas to determine whether they appear to be real geographies that could in fact contain votes. After this check, the following precincts are removed: Clarke-:-GOSPORT FIRE 61_1 CONG 7, Clarke-:-WALKER SPRNGS 41_2 CONG7. Due to the fact that votes are reported by Congressional district split, these votes are removed from the "_all_" and "_cong_" files. Following all this processing (including the removal of the three Lauderdale precincts mentioned above), the totals in the "_all_" file are lower than those in the election results file by the following amounts: {'P24A01NO': 17, 'P24A01YES': 19, 'P24CFJRSTE': 5, 'P24CR2RAND': 2, 'P24CR2RGOV': 2, 'P24CV2RHAN': 4, 'P24CV2RPAR': 1, 'P24PREDPHI': 1, 'P24PREDBID': 44, 'P24PREDUNC': 1, 'P24PRERTRU': 9, 'P24PSCRCAV': 6, 'PCON07DDAV': 3, 'PCON07DSEW': 33, 'PCON07RHOR': 1, 'PCON07RLIT': 3}. Totals in the "_cong_" file differ from those in the election results file by the following amounts: {'PCON07RHOR': 1, 'PCON06RPAL': 12, 'PCON07RLIT': 3, 'PCON07DDAV': 3, 'PCON06RWIL': 4, 'PCON07DSEW': 33, 'PCON06RMCF': 3}. There are a handful of splits small enough to not constitute the majority area of any census block or any census block with population. After examination, these precincts appear to be plausible areas and are kept in the file: Jefferson-:-PREC 5010 - HOOVER PARK & RECR-(CONG-07), Tuscaloosa-:-ALBERTA BAPT CH CNG4, Jefferson-:-PREC 4090 - FULTONDALE FIRST B-(CONG-06), Jefferson-:-PREC 4125 - HOPE COMMUNITY CHU-(CONG-06), Jefferson-:-PREC 5100 - BLUFF PARK UNITED-(CONG-06), Clarke-:-JACKSON CITY HALL CONG 7. Due to new polling locations or name changes, some precinct names do not exactly match those found in the 2022 precinct file and were changed to match. These changes were all verified with documentation from the counties or, if no documentation was obtained, by checking against the voter file. For instances where the 2022 Alabama file was not used to construct the 2024 Alabama general source file and precinct boundaries were changed with either a map or file, these files were verified as having been created before the 2024 primary election.
